Roughly a nanosecond after Scott Pioli was hired by the Kansas City Chiefs, the rumors of a reunion with Kirk Ferentz commenced. With the two being close friends for nearly two decades, and reports stating that Ferentz is Pioli’s top choice should he land his own job someday, the rumors were a natural — albeit uncomfortable — fit. Now, Adam Schefter of NFL.com is attempting to throw a little more water on the smoldering rumors.Schefter, citing those familiar with Iowa and Ferentz’s thinking, reports that, even if Pioli wanted to hire Ferentz, those sources don’t think he could pry the coach out of Iowa City.Of course, Herman Edwards remains head coach of the Chiefs, at least for the time being. But, again, it’ll be interesting to see what happens if Edwards is relieved of his duties — more than a few think that’s a near certainty — and Ferentz is staring face-to-face with the opportunity to team with his friend and rebuild a historical franchise with a rich tradition.
