Heaps Makes It Official (Along with Apo & Stout): BYU

When news broke that Jake Heaps would be making his announcement from Salt Lake City, it pretty much confirmed that he’d be playing his college football at BYU. Now, as expected, Heaps has made it official that he’ll attend BYU. More surprising, two other highly touted recruits joined him in naming BYU today.Ross Apo, a highly touted wide receiver out of Texas who at one time was committed to the Longhorns, and Zac Stout, another four-star recruit from Oaks Christian in Southern California joined Heaps in making their commitment to BYU today. The trio marks one of the more prolific recruiting hauls for the Cougars, and for just about any non-automatic qualifying school in the BCS.”BYU is the perfect place for me,” Heaps told TotalBlueSports.com. “I love everything about BYU. I love the coaches, the team, the school and I know that BYU is the place that can help me reach my goals more so than any other place.”BYU had a head start on Heaps’ commitment from the very beginning. “BYU started recruiting me very early,” Heaps said. “They were the first school to offer me and I’ve been recruited by them and I’ve had contact with their coaches for as long as I can remember. They have seriously been recruiting me since the spring of my freshman year.”Today’s recruiting pull is quite a coup for coach Bronco Mendenhall, and the loss of Heaps leaves Washington coach Steve Sarkisian looking in a different direction after getting turned down by the hometown product.

It was a smart move for Heaps. But Steve Sarkesian is also a great young coach. I expect he will turn Washington around completely in three years. He just needs some raw talent, not the best guy in the nation. Steve Sarkesian can teach any good prospect to be great!
