Moped OWI Adds To Iowa’s Offseason Woes

(Writer’s Note: Not to be outdone by “Vegas Keith”, this post is being written at a hotel in Niagara Falls from a room boasting a “beautiful view” of the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel. Happy Anniversary, honey!!! What’s that? I know, I just need... crap, stop hitting me... alright, one post and we’ll hit the tables... PUT THAT BEER BOTTLE DOWN RIGHT NOW... too late...)And, yes, you read the headline correctly.Iowa starting offensive lineman Kyle Calloway has been charged with operating a vehicle while intoxicated after being pulled over on his -- chuckle -- moped early this morning.Calloway, who has started the last 25 games for the Hawkeyes and is listed as the #1 right tackle on the depth chart, was also suspended for a game by head coach Kirk Ferentz.”I was very disappointed to learn of Kyle’s poor judgment,” Ferentz said in a statement. “Kyle will be expected to complete counseling and educational requirements, extensive community service obligations and game suspension prior to returning to the field."Just this past week, Ferentz lifted the alcohol-related suspensions of three players, including son James, for an incident earlier this year. This is the fifth alcohol-related incident for Iowa players in the last eight months.(Hopefully, I handled coverage of this arrest with enough aplomb, respect and subtlety so as not to be dressed down by Coach Ferentz.)
