Falcon Legend Prepped Son For B.C. Spotlight

The quarterback position at Boston College  took a hit recently when starting quarterback Dominique Davis was suspended and subsequently transferred from the school early last month.

The unexpected departure suddenly thrust an already unstable position into a state of chaos.

One of the players new head coach Frank Spaziani will be looking to bring some calm to the situation is redshirt sophomore Justin Tuggle.  And, yes, Justin is the son of Atlanta falcons legend Jessie Tuggle.

According to the now-retired NFL linebacker, his son has been preparing for the a place in the spotlight for a long time, thanks in large part to his father’s profession.

“There is pressure that comes with being an NFL [star's] son,” the elder Tuggle told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “You’ve got to work harder than the other kid.”

This past spring, no QB on the BC roster separated themselves during the series of practices.  The battle for the starting job will resume in less than a month as Tuggle will join Codi Boek and Alexander Atiyeh in the signal-calling fray, with incoming freshman Michael Marscovetra seemingly slotted for a spot on the perimeter of the competition.

One curve ball that’s been thrown into equation is Dave Shinskie.

Shinskie gave up a six-year minor league baseball career last month and decided to resume his football career by accepting a scholarship offer from BC.  While Shinskie was on the receiving end of several D-1A offers coming out of high school, the fact that he hasn’t played a down since 2002 calls into question exactly what he’ll be able to bring to the QB table.

Listening to the elder — and obviously biased — Tuggle, however, it doesn’t matter who’s part of the competition.

“I think,” Dad said, “he’s the best quarterback on the team.”
