Ol’ Ball Coach mans up, takes blame for Tebow snub

Mystery solved.

Former Florida and current South Carolina head coach Steve Spurrier admitted this morning that it was his ballot that didn’t contain the name “Tim Tebow” as the first-team All-SEC quarterback.

But, according to the coach, there was nothing malicious on his end. Instead, it was a mistake on the part of one of his minions who actually filled out the ballot for him.

“That was me,” Spurrier said at his press conference according to the Gainesville Sun. “Let me explain. I don’t fill out the form. I had my director of operations do it. I glanced at it. I saw A.J. Green, I saw Eric Norwood. I glanced at it. I didn’t look at it.

“I said certainly we had Tim Tebow as the first QB, didn’t we? And there was little pause. I said why in the world didn’t you put Tim Tebow on there? He said he already had 10 Gators on there, and I said that wasn’t a good reason.

I’ll take the blame.”

Kind of anticlimactic, eh?

So, there you have it. It was Spurrier after all. Or, more precisely, one of underlings.

Which begs yet another question: why is it a preseason coaches poll when most of the coaches don’t even fill out their own ballots?

Alas, that’s a question for another day...
