Starting Marshall RB suspended for opener

When the Thundering Herd of Marshall takes the field for their season opener Sept. 5 against Southern Illinois, running back Darius Marshall will not be with them, the Huntington Herald-Dispatch is reporting.

Marshall will serve a one-game suspension after being arrested this offseason for possession of marijuana.

Terrell Edwards will start in his place.

“He’s a big back that runs low to the ground,” head coach Mark Snyder said. “He lowers his shoulders very well, and he’s a powerful back. I think fans are going to be pleasantly surprised with Terrell Edwards.”

Last season, the sophomore rushed for 154 yards on 28 carries.

Edwards will be backed up by redshirt freshmen Martin Ward and Jordan Taylor (no relation).
