The Nebraska rushing attack suffered a fairly significant hit today as running back Quentin Castille was dismissed from the program, head coach Bo Pelini announced after today’s practice.
As if it needs to be written, Castille was kicked out because of violations of team rules.
“We have guidelines, we have policies set up here, we have a culture set up here,” Pelini said.
“It’s pretty black and white my expectations that we lay out as a staff, and if somebody doesn’t follow those policies and guidelines, they’re no longer going to be with the program. And that’s the case with Quentin.
“I wish him luck. He’s a good kid. He’s just not going to be with our program any more.”
Castille hadn’t participated in practice for the last several days, even though the media covering the team weren’t aware of injuries that may have been the cause of his absence.
The junior had been engaged in a battle with Roy Helu Jr. for the starting spot. With Castille’s dismissal, freshman Rex Burkhead will likely assume the backup job behind Helu.
Last season, Castille rushed for 467 yards, and six touchdowns, totals that were third on the team behind Helu and the graduated Marlon Lucky. As a freshman, Castille rushed 343.
What a “wasted” career. I hear he would have had a “smokin” year. He really knew how to “take a hit”. Hard to tell how “high” he might have gone in the draft. Shame.
