Arrest warrant issued for Auburn back

Additional charges have been filed against Auburn’s Eric Smith, resulting in an arrest warrant being issued for the running back, the Opelika-Auburn News is reporting.

The warrant was issued on Friday, and Smith will turn himself in on Monday.

Smith was arrested early Thursday morning outside of a hotel for disturbing the peace.  He will now be facing a third-degree assault charge.  The charge is punishable by a fine of up to $6,000 and up to one year in jail.

Smith was allegedly involved in some type of fight that left an unidentified male victim with a “deep” laceration over his eye.

Head coach Gene Chizik would neither confirm or deny that Smith was still a member of the program.
