Did a Seinfeld episode inspire USF QB to greatness?

By most measures, Matt Grothe of South Florida is one of the top quarterbacks in college football.

In 38 career starts, the Tim TeBull of the Big East has thrown for 8,157 yards and 47 touchdowns while also rushing for 2,085 yards and 23 touchdowns.

Some might wonder, where’d this talent come from?  From what reservoir did Grothe and, by extension, his parents and coaches tap this immense talent?

Based on extensive research — a St. Petersburg Times article tonight combined with “The Barber” episode appearing on my television the same day — we believe we have the answer.

It’s the hair.

Take the photographic evidence the Times presents from 1995…

…and combine it with this clip from November of 1993…

…and, well, we’ll let you make the call.

Seinfeld is not only responsible for half the material Florio has, but he’s also the inspiration for and impetus behind one of the top quarterbacks in the country.

Who knew?
