D-Day coming for UM’s QB competition?

Believe it or not, there is some actual football news coming out of Ann Arbor these days.

The Wolverines unsettled quarterback situation could come into a little sharper focus today, albeit privately and likely not publicly, as head coach Rich Rodriguez will decide on which one of the three -- junior Nick Sheridan and freshmen Tate Forcier and Denard Robinson -- will start the opener.

“I’m probably not going to make it public,” he said. “Why tell anybody?

“I’m sure if you asked Western, they’ll tell you it doesn’t matter who the quarterback is. They’re going to defend the offense, not a particular quarterback, especially in the first game.”

Throughout the offseason and heading into summer camp, it was widely assumed that it was Forcier’s job to lose. The only problem was, neither Forcier nor either of the other two QBs “has really separated themselves to say, ‘hey, he’s solid,’ ” Rodriguez said.

The head coach has already stated on numerous occasions that all three will play in the opener, but did allow that, if one of them gets into a rhythm, they would let that player stay on the field.

Now, while the QB situation might be somewhat, kinda, sorta settled today, the same can’t be said for the running back position.

Starting tailback Brandon Minor has what appears to be a injury to his right ankle, and is questionable for the Western Michigan game. If Minor is unable to go, Carlos Brown would replace the senior in the starting lineup.
