Lou Holtz officially loses it

ESPN’s Lou Holtz made headlines earlier this year when he predicted Notre Dame would make it to the BcS title game.

Just moments ago, Holtz dropped trou on national television and showed just how truly deep his Irish bias goes.

The former ND coach said the following of Charlie Weis during halftime of the Ohio State-Navy game: “He is the most underrated football coach in the country.”

I’m just… I can’t really… wow.

Did he mean scrutinized?  Does he not know what the word “underrated” mean?

It’s truly one of the most amazing things I’ve seen in my lifetime, that Holtz is gainfully employed on television on a weekly basis.  Amazing.

ESPN has officially lost it when it comes to their College Football coverage…for so called “extreme” coverage all they talk about each week are 4 things…Tim Tebow, Florida, USC & Notre Dame…What are they going to do next year when Tebow is gone? Talk about what he’s not doing in the NFL.
They don’t do any true college research anymore and it shows. They have some decent talent they can use to cover college football but they continue to use guys like Trevor Matich (sp) which is just horid to watch. I really don’t ever get the feeling he knows what he’s talking about.
ESPN has been very week in their college football coverage…it’s sucha a passion around the country you would think they would put forth more of an effort and put out a good product if they’re truly the World Wide Leader in Sports.

I am sorry to say that I will no longer watch
espn college coverage, as it is just a shame so
many wonderful people are out of work, and yet
Lou Holts continues to embarrass our intellegence while he draws an undeserving
    paycheck…idiot

Holtz is a crackpot that can’t even speak properly. However, you have to remember, you’re allowed to have an ND bias when you’re on TV.

Did anyone watch that, when he said that the others couldnt believe what he just said. He is an ass

  5. ryankooter says: Sep 5, 2009 5:19 PM

Holtz just said, “Clausen is a Heisman Trophy Candidate” How come he is still on the air?

  6. John Taylor says: Sep 5, 2009 5:40 PM

@ Mr. Kooter: did Lou really say that? If he did… dammit! I missed it.
Again, I’m just amazed that he’s on TV.

Listen to all u Notre Dame haters, LOLLLL! I LOVE IT!! This is just the beginning for Jimmy Clausen and u guys just can’t handle it, LOLLLLLLL! And Mr. Taylor thank u for showing your “bias” against the Irish, i’ll be looking forward to reading your apology. Lou Holtz for president!!

Ditto Oakfan23. Lou is crazy like a fox. Let’s see how it plays out this year. Let’s not discount that much of media coverage, analysis, etc. is at least in part tied to entertainment value. Enjoy the show.

Lou Holtz for president? Are you crazy?! Lou Holtz for supreme ruler of the entire universe! Jimmy Clausen just may, just may be the second coming of our lord and savior jesus christ, and therefore Holtz is the father. Weis is only the holy spirit because of his broken knee exposed him as fallible instead of infallible. Notre Dame forever!

Oakfan23… Come on over to the Inside the Irish blog — where comments like “Charlie Weis is one of the most underrated coaches in college football” are more than welcomed!

Lou rules. ND is back and the pundits can’t take it. ND =’s BCS and Clausen for Heisman.
    GO IRISH!

For once somebodies got it right ! Forget Tim Tebow , Florida , and Notre Dame .
    USC is college football .

Does anyone realize ‘he’ is JUST an analyst and IS allowed to have an opinion, on that show they all ask each others opinion repeatedly and that’s what makes for good TV “Different radical opinions opposing one another”. So next time you want to undercut ND’s football program …. Do So instead of complaining about an analyst who’s getting paid to do just that “analyze and give opinion”

  17. Oldschool_Blue says: Sep 19, 2009 10:50 PM

mef811 – he’s getting paid to analyze *objectively* and give *good* opinions. if he’s just going to be a stupid homer, then any joker yahoo could do that.
but i’m guessing after ND got sunk by U-M and then required a missed TD pass against MSU that all those morons who talk about Clausen for Heisman and ND going to the BCS are moping and hiding out of sight.

  18. REVENGE21 says: Sep 20, 2009 4:11 PM

Lou’s won a national championship, needless to say you blowhards haven’t! Even after having crappy seasons still ND has a national TV contract, noone else INCLUDING USC does. Finally the ranking system is flawed like most of your logic. If the NFL used rankings the Giants wouldn’t have been in the super bowl!!!

  19. Wulverinefan says: Sep 26, 2009 7:13 AM

ND has a contract with MSNBC for coverage, and have had it for some time. Its however not based on whether or not they are good, its based on the fact that many people revere the Golden Dome. I’m not one of them. I’m one of those Michigan fans, that had to shut up when my team was down last year. I had to listen to all the “Domers” giggling that Michigan was done for at least “the next 3 years” Guess what Domer Fans..you lost to us..AGAIN! Sure, it wasn’t the 38-0 spanking that we had recently put on you..TWICE. No, it was a nailbiter that a FRESHMAN QB put on your Junior Qb. I’m sorry, Weiss is not a good coach. Period. Lou Holz? hmm..not terribly bright. Yes, he won a National championship, but so did Lloyd Carr…if you were gonna pick a football coach, which one would you choose? Honest question..Carr, vs, Weiss or Holz? no question. Carr had a better overall record, better record against top ten schools, and a national championship. The Domers don’t like it when their school gets beat, can totally understand that, can even understand the unreasoning and rabid support of the team. But eventually, logic and common sense have to take over. Weiss lost the game this year, no other way to put it. He used flawed logic..and, didn’t trust his defense..rightly so, as they gave up the winning touchdown, again, I”ll say it, two FRESHMEN! OY..not ready for BCS yet Domers…Get rid of Weiss, and maybe soon you’ll get your chance.
