Savage Era at Rutgers set to commence

After a summer-long quarterback competition, Rutgers head Greg Schiano settled on Domenic Natale over Tom Savage.

After one regular season game, Schiano has given the “oops, my bad” high sign to the position.

According to the Newark Star-Ledger, Schiano announced after practice today that Natale has been demoted and the true freshman has been promoted.

Tommy’s going to be the starter,” Schiano said. “Dom’s going to back him up.

“Dom’s a competitor, he’s disappointed. But Dom’s also a great team family member here and he wants to win. He’s doing everything. He came out and practiced the way I expected him to.”

Both Savage and Natale played in Rutgers’ embarrassing 47-15 home loss to Big East foe Cincinnati.

Natale started the game and threw three second-quarter interceptions —  25% of his attempts — that led to 14 Bearcat points and a 31-7 deficit.

Savage started the second half, and threw a touchdown early in the fourth quarter.  He was not picked in his 23 attempts.
