Rotator cuff at the root of Cox injury rumors

Amidst rumors that Joe Cox would not start today’s SEC opener against South Carolina due to a shoulder/arm injury, head coach Mark Richt stated unequivocally that the senior would be under center for the home opener.

What Richt wouldn’t address were the specifics of any any type of injury issues Cox was fighting through.  Don’t worry, though, coach.  Cox will fill in the gaps.

Speaking to ESPN.com by way of the Athens Banner-Herald because I can’t find the damn thing on the WWL’s website, Cox said it’s his rotator cuff that’s giving him problems and has forced him to rest his throwing arm periodically throughout the week.

“It’s nerve problems caused by a muscle that protects my rotator cuff,” Cox said. “One of the muscles that protects the rotator cuff has wasted away and that puts pressure on the rotator cuff.”

The good news for UGA is that the injury really isn’t affecting Cox on the football field.

“Most of my pain is away from football,” Cox said. “At night when I sleep. Picking up a bookbag. Driving with my right hand.”
