In what could be viewed as a good sign or a very ominous one, a television station in Jackson, MIMS, is reporting that Oklahoma quarterback Sam Bradford is meeting with surgeon-to-the-stars Dr. James Andrews this weekend.
According to a report WAPT-16 and later filed on their website, Bradford was seen changing planes at Dallas’ Love Field yesterday and getting on one headed for Birmingham, AL, the home base of Dr. Andrews’ practice.
Bradford, of course, has been out of action since suffering a sprained AC joint in his throwing shoulder during the season-opening loss to BYU. The only timeline for a return was presented by Bradford himself as the QB said shortly after the injury that he’d be out 2-4 weeks; the game against Miami (Fla.) next Saturday would be exactly four weeks since he suffered an injury.
The reigning Heisman winner’s visit to Andrew could possibly portend one of two things. One, the shoulder is doing well enough that Bradford and the OU staff feel the QB’s ready to return in the very near future, and they are going to Andrews for confirmation that he is indeed physically able to resume playing.
Bradford, albeit on a very limited basis, returned to practice earlier this week. Wide receiver Ryan Broyles was quoted as saying that he “didn’t really see him all-out extend, but I saw him throw some five-to-10-yard passes.”
The second possibility would be that the rehab is not progressing as expected — or there was a setback as he returned to limited work — and further evaluation is needed as to what course to continue on.
Head coach Bob Stoops has steadfastly refused to offer up even a hint of a timeline for Bradford’s return. Of course, that tack allows for even more speculation and talk than what the coach is attempting to avoid by not talking about it in the first place.
(Tip o’ the hat: Tulsa World.)
Why on Earth would a Michigan television station care what an Oklahoma QB is doing in Alabama?
Sam Bradford looks like the Geico cavemen
He doesn’t want to have to play a mad MiaMi team next week!!
