While saying that Tim Tebow is looking “a lot better”, head coach Urban Meyer gave no definitive word on whether or not the quarterback will be available for No. 1 Florida’s showdown with No. 4 LSU this Saturday.
Tebow will not practice today and, obviously, has not been given medical clearance to return to the playing field.
The good news for Gator fans, though, is the fact that Meyer said Tebow’s concussion-related headache has been gone for several days.
Last week, multiple reports stated that Tebow would need to be asymptomatic before he could be cleared to return. Given the fact that Tebow has been headache-free well ahead of this Saturday’s game, it’s an encouraging sign that the senior may indeed be available for the defending national champs’ biggest test of the 2009 season.
I’m by no means a Gator fan, but at the same time I’d like to see a game between these two rivals with all of their best players.
Having said that, I’m just wondering if 2 weeks is really enough time to see how much damage was done. From all the NFL reports regarding Steve Young and Troy Aikmen years back, I thought the medical consensus on these things was a) its almost impossible to tell how severe this kind of injury is, and b) a concussed player is REALLY vulnerable.
He’s still a kid, no matter how big. You know he’s going to say he’s fine and everyone wants to think that he is, but this ain’t the pros and Florida should be very careful with him. He’s still a college student with most of his life ahead of him. And the way he plays isn’t exactly collision-free.
It will never happen but Urban Meyer should be far more concerned about a STUDENT/athlete’s health and LIFETIME well being rather than his National Championship aspirations and won/loss record.
Tebow should sit at least another week and probably two.
It will never happen. Win at all costs!!
