Kragthorpe already done in the 'Ville?

It’s not exactly a state secret that Louisville head coach Steve Kragthorpe has his butt cheeks firmly planted on the coaching hot seat.  And, when such a situation exists, rumors regarding a replacement and the coach’s current standing are certain to fly with little or no constraints.

Apparently, there are rumblings running rampant throughout the Louisville football community that the leading candidate to replace the current head coach should he be fired is Jon “F—ing” Gruden.

We’d been unaware of the extent of these rumors until informed via email by a former Louisville player yesterday that Gruden is indeed the buzz du jour among the Cardinals faithful.  After a little digging over the last 24 hours, we’ve come up with nothing remotely concrete to connect the Gruden-to-the ‘Ville dots.

What has come up in that same time frame, though, is a report on a website entitled “Louisville Sports Buzz“.

According to the posting, a meeting took place on Monday between Kragthorpe and athletic director Tom Jurich.  At the meeting, Jurich reportedly gave Kragthorpe the option of resigning before or after this weekend’s game, or play out the season as a lame-duck coach.

Via email, UL Assistant Sports Information Director Rocco Gasparro told CFT that such a meeting did not take place.

The site went on to add that “Cards fans shouldn’t be surprised if there is an announcement shortly following the game on Saturday.”

We have no idea about the validity of this report or the reputation of the site it appeared on.  The only certainty we know of when it comes to the Kragthorpe situation is that, if his program continues its losing ways through the rest of the season, there’s a very good chance that a press conference will be held at some point.

At which point Kragthorpe’s butt will be taken off the hot seat and planted in the nearest unemployment line.

I’m surprised Louisville isn’t going after Malzhain at Auburn.

after reading this….my curosity got the best of me and i went out to the “louisville sports buzz” website and all i can say is “wow” i think they may be on to something….that may be just wishful thinking on my part but the associate director or athletic director or some title i can barely recall, for the university has even made a post on the site……the first question that brings to my mind is…..why would a sports official from the school try so hard to discredit a website that before today he probably hadn’t heard of?
while i am out here….i will just add to the rumor mill……gruden turned louisville down and they have moved on to jeff jagodzinski……..

No way they should go after Jagodzinski, he’s proved he’s not loyal and is always looking for his next job.
I would be very surprised if Gruden would want the Louisville job. I think he’d either want an NFL job or Notre Dame, and would be content to stay another year at Monday Night Football and wait for a job he wants.
