Urban playing coy about Wildcat?

Given the uncertainty continuing to swirl around the status of Tim Tebow, talk of Florida throwing in some Wildcat packages this weekend against LSU has understandably flown somewhat under the radar.

Specifically, head coach Urban Meyer yesterday mentioned tight end Aaron Hernandez, running back Jeff Demps and wide receiver Brandon James as players who could be in line for direct snaps Saturday night.

What's interesting, though -- as pointed out by astute reader "Whatever" -- is who Meyer didn't mention by name: stud cornerback Joe Haden.

In high school, Haden passed for more than 5,000 yards and threw nearly 80 touchdown passes.  Back in early August, Meyer spoke openly about the possibility of Haden seeing some time taking direct snaps.

"He was a high school quarterback and we thought about playing him at some receiver, but there's a chance (he could lineup at quarterback)," Meyer said at the time. "Let people think about it for a little bit. That's good. ...

"He threw me a football and that damn thing came at me, tight spiral and hot. I said, 'Do that again,' and he did it again, and ever since then he's been talking to me and now that we're allowed (to work with players) he's throwing with (quarterbacks coach) Scot (Loeffler) and that's a possibility."

Given Haden's high school track record, and Meyer's raving earlier this year about the corner, it should come as no surprise when it's Haden, and not the players specifically mentioned this week by Meyer, who takes center 'Cat stage if/when the Gators bust out an extended version of the package in the biggest game of the year thus far.

Regardless of whether Tebow is on the field or not.

    Completely fascinating!

Tebow's concussion has certianly made LSU's preparation more difficult. I think I've said it before, but I wouldn't play Tebow if I were Meyer. All eyes will be on the Gator offense Saturday night, that's for sure.
