S. Miss player not killed in gun accident; news still grave

Earlier today, we posted -- based on a press release from the school -- about Southern Miss walk-on punter Peter Wilkes dying as a result of a gun accident at his Tennessee home Thursday night.

While that's not the case, there's still sobering news regarding Wilkes to report.

According to a new press release from the university, Wilkes suffered an irrecoverable injury Thursday night as a result of a gun accident at his home in Union City, Tenn.

No further details were given.

Again, our condolences go out to the family and friends of Peter Wilkes.

You do realize that Southern Miss put out a press release saying that he died, then issued a retraction and correction, correct?
