Volunteers serve notice in whipping Dawgs

Memo to the SEC: when it comes to the Tennessee Volunteers, you might want to get yours while you can.

While the record shows a fair-to-middlin’ 3-3 record right now, the young UT charges have shown incremental growth throughout the early portion of the season and Lane Kiffin is building something at UT that could be very formidable in the not-too-distant future.

(And, to answer your question, yes, I threw up a little bit in my mouth as I typed that.)

The latest sign, which is actually more of a leap than an a hop?  A thorough 45-19 trashing of the Georgia Bulldogs in Knoxville that wasn’t really as close as the final 26-point difference would indicate.

Basically, and in a very dumbed-down snap analysis — my forte, incidentally — the Volunteers dominated the Bulldogs in all aspects of the game.  Defensively, Monte Kiffin‘s scheme confused and rattled the UGA offense throughout the afternoon.  UGA failed to score an offensive touchdown, getting their two TDs on a kick return and a pick six.

Offensively, Jonathan Crompton had his way — in a good way, believe it or not — for the most part in passing for over 300 yards and four touchdowns.  Crompton wasn’t a one-man wrecking crew, though, as the Vols ran for just under 160 yards as the offense rolled up nearly 470 yards of total offense.

Simply put, this was the Volunteers taking their boot and putting it squarely in the Bulldogs’ ass.  Repeatedly.

One quick question on the Georgia side of the ledger: how bare of a thread is the Joe Cox Era in Athens hanging on to?  Going from Matt Stafford to Cox would be like going from Catherine Zeta-Jones to James Earl Jones, no?

One thing’s certain, though. UT’s 3-3 looks and smells a helluva lot better than UGA’s.

    Great article…
“(And, to answer your question, yes, I threw up a little bit in my mouth as I typed that.)”
I can only speak for myself and not the vol nation, but after years of being verbally b-slapped by the likes of Spurrier, I love that we have Kiffin. He truly is the Kanye West of college football coaches. I laughed with glee when I read this comment.

If this is your forte how did you not notice that the dawgs pwned us on the special teams “aspect” of the game. Otherwise I agree with your analysis completely. Our special teams are atrocious and have been all season.

So, what you’re saying is, Kiffin will run up on stage as (insert coach’s name here) receives a national coach-of-the-year award, and go on a diatribe about how Pete Carroll was robbed? ;-)

This is my first post. I am a huge Gator fan but I totally agree with you about Tennessee. Something special is brewing in Knoxville. They may be just 3-3 but they are getting better every week and they are playing hard for Kiffin. Watch out next year SEC….here come the Vols.
    P.S. Yes…..posted by a Gator.
