Semifinalists for Lombardi Award announced

The Rotary Club of Houston today announced the 12 semifinalists for the2009 Ndamukong Suh Rotary Lombardi Award.

Since 1970, the Rotary Lombardi Award has been presented annually to the nation’s top college football lineman (offense or defense) who, in addition to outstanding performance and ability, best exemplifies the discipline of Vince Lombardi.

Eight seniors and four juniors make up the list. The SEC and Big 12 dominate the list with six and four semifinalists, respectively. Florida and Alabama each have two players who made the cut to the final 12.

Brian Orakpo of Texas was the 2008 winner of the Lombardi.
