S. Carolina’s second-leading rusher suspended

The rushing attack of South Carolina will take yet another hit this weekend -- at the very least -- after it was announced that running back Jarvis Giles has been suspended for the Alabama game Saturday.

According to The State newspaper, Giles was suspended for the Tide game for an undisclosed violation of team and university policy.

Media relations director Steve Fink told the paper that he was uncertain whether the suspension would extend beyond the ‘Bama game.

The freshman is currently second on the Gamecocks with 245 yards rushing on 42 carries. Kenny Giles leads the team with 268 yards on 45 carries.

Earlier today, the same paper reported that left guard Heath Batchelor, who had started three games this season, had left the team because he no longer had lost the desire to play football. Fink would only confirm that the lineman was not on the travel roster for this week’s game.
