Hey, if Pete Carroll and others can do a man-crush on a wannabe legend like Matt Barkley, Urban Meyer can do it with it a bona fide collegiate legend, right?
Florida quarterback Tim Tebow is one touchdown away from breaking former Georgia great Herschel Walker‘s SEC rushing touchdown record of 49. For his part, Meyer can’t believe a player he coaches is occupying the same rarified air as a player he grew up idolizing.
“It’s amazing,” Meyer said. “From my era it was Herschel Walker, I don’t want to say it too publicly, but you were in awe of him. And here’s Tim Tebow, a guy I get to see every day, and you mention him in a rushing record in the same sentence with Herschel Walker? That’s pretty powerful.
“I was a Herschel Walker fan - like, nuts about him when I was in high school. I got to meet him at the Heisman ceremony and sat and talked to him. I was actually a huge Georgia Bulldogs fan because of Herschel Walker.”
The thing is, I get the gushing and giddiness Meyer has for Walker. Absolutely get it. In my 41 years on this earth, I have never seen a better college football player than UGA’s No. 34.
So, rave on coach Meyer. I got your back on this one.
