Prized recruit bolting Buffs

On National Signing Day in February of 2008, Colorado scored one of the biggest recruiting coups in the school's history, landing a commitment from the nation's top-rated running back, Darrell Scott.

21 months, 438 yards and one touchdown later, Scott has left the building.

According to the Denver Post, Scott has decided to transfer from the university.  Right now, his intentions are to transfer to UCLA.  Scott's uncle, Josh Smith, transferred from the Buffaloes to the Bruins earlier this year.

A big part of why Scott chose Colorado was because of Smith's presence.  Now, he's hoping to be reunited with Smith closer to where he grew up.

"I'd been thinking about it for a couple of months," Scott told the paper.  "There's really nothing to say, other than 'Sorry' to Buff nation."

Scott has already requested the school to release him from his scholarship so he can transfer to UCLA.  There's no word yet on whether the school will immediately grant the request, or whether they'll make him jump through hoops like they did to Smith.

It is a sad day for the Buffs. This was once one of the proudest football schools in the country. The Buffs, Big Red, and Oklahoma dominated the Big Seven/Eight in the 40's and 50's until scandal rocked the football program. They rose again to the point that the Big Three finished 1-2-3 in the country. Then Coach Crowder (who was AD at the time) was minimized and a small cadre of alumni hired a drunk who abandoned the team he was leading and destroyed the program. They rose again to the top of the country from '89-'91, sustaining a top ten rating until another series of poor coaching decisions led them to where they are today: an empty shell. Well having returned from the dead before all of us who bleed Black and Gold will keep the faith that history will repeat itself.
