'Injury' will keep keep 'Cocks DB on sidelines

Officially, a shoulder injury will keep South Carolina's Chris Culliver out of this weekend's game with Arkansas.

Unofficially, there seems to be an underlying issue that has Steve Spurrier holding the junior out.

According to the Greenville News, Culliver missed several tackles in the loss to Tennessee, and that -- and perhaps a little secrecy on the part of the defensive back -- seemed to be as much of an issue as the injury itself.

"Chris Culliver's shoulder has bothered him a bit and some other things have happened that he's taking this week off," Spurrier said. "Hopefully, he'll be back next week ready to contribute to our success. Chris is out this game."

"Some other things" could relate to Culliver's failure to fully disclose the extent of his shoulder injury to the coaching staff.

"We had a little talk with our team that if you have an injury and you can't perform, you need to tell the coaches," Spurrier said. "If that was the biggest problem, and we think it was, it was certainly embarrassing for all of us.

"Hopefully, that will not happen again."
