Labor uncertainty could help and hurt underclassmen

There’s no doubt that the labor uncertainty in the NFL is having an effect on the many underclassmen weighing their options. It’s tough for most people — even those of us who write about this stuff for a living — to try and figure out what’s true and what’s false as the NFLPA and the owners play an enormous game of chicken disguised as negotiations.

But that’s why we have Florio.

Trading emails with our fearless leader and burgeoning TV star, Mike told me he thinks “underclassmen will come out in droves due to fear of no football due to a lockout or an NBA-style rookie wage scale if they work out a deal.”

Over at the Inside the Irish blog, I took a look at how the labor unrest could either push Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate into the NFL Draft, or possibly give them a bigger reason to stay in South Bend for another season.
