McNair's son chooses S. Miss

The death of his father in a tragic murder-suicide has made this a difficult last few months for Steve McNair Jr.

The son of former NFL quarterback Steve McNair, however, is getting on with his life and will continue following in his father's footsteps by playing collegiate football next fall.

According to the Hattiesburg American, McNair has decided to give a verbal commitment to Southern Miss, and is intent on signing a national letter of intent with the school next February.

"I just wanted to give my family a chance to watch my games," said McNair. "I wanted to stay close to home and I loved the Southern Miss campus."

The Oak Grove (MI) High School product had been recruited by, among others, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Minnesota, Nebraska, West Virginia and Tulsa, the Sporting News reports.

Unlike his father, McNair's main position is wide receiver as he currently leads his team with 39 receptions for 372 yards and three touchdowns.  He's also rushed 54 times for 293 yards and a pair of TDs, and, to show he has a little bit of his father in him, he has 10-of-19 passes for 141 yards.
