RichRod's day goes from bad to surreal

As if a1-5 record in the last six games wasn't enough of a kick in the testicles for Rich Rodriguez, Purdue's head coach added -- allegedly -- a roundhouse to RichRod's baby makers in the postgame handshake.

According to the embattled Michigan coach, Danny Hope used today's postgame meet-and-greet to introduce his league coaching peer to offensive lineman Zach Reckman.  The same Reckman who was suspended for a game for spearing a player in a September game against Northern Illinois.

And the same Reckman that Hope alleges Rodriguez helped to get suspended.

Yes, it's convoluted but, apparently, Hope believes RichRod blew the whistle on his player a week after a Big Ten review of a play resulted in one of Rodriguez's players -- linebacker Jonas Mouton -- getting hit with a one-game suspension.

After Mouton was suspended, Rodriguez vowed to send any questionable play involving any Big Ten team to the league office for further review.  Hope believes Rodriguez did that with Reckman, and made his feelings known to the Wolverine coach following the loss.

And again, as convoluted as it is, we'll let Rodriguez take it from here, courtesy of the Detroit News.

"I was a little bit disappointed that after the game their coach seemed to bring the lineman over like I was the reason that his lineman got suspended for that one game," Rodriguez said. "He brought him over there and said, 'Thanks for this,' or whatever.

"I don't know where that came from. I mean, I talked to him on the phone and told him it wasn't me. This was way back when. I didn't have anything to do with that young man getting suspended for that one game.

"What are you going to do? I usually go over and shake hands and tell you good luck on the next game. I mean, to come over and say something about that -- whatever."

Hope had a response to Rodriguez's accusations.

"As far as I'm concerned, our conversation will remain between coach Rodriguez and me," Hope said in the statement. "We'll leave it at that."

So, what does all of this mean?  I have no clue, other than Rodriguez is carrying an 8-14 record -- 3-11 in conference play -- into games the next two weeks against Wisconsin and Ohio State as his program is on the verge of missing a bowl for the second straight season.

Add this latest controversy onto an NCAA investigation into potential major violations, mix it in with an embarrassing record, and you have a volatile brew stewing in Ann Arbor.

And a coach whose only light in the tunnel is seemingly an oncoming freight train.

I can't help but wonder whether people in Ann Arbor are kicking themselves for those "Fire Carr" tee shirts everyone was sporting just a few years ago.

Still with the login problems and no comments - but PFT/CFT is working on getting the mobile system up to snuff?

Stay home from the Noter Dame 1/2 time show one week Florio and work on your site. Or start task mastering those NBC hampster herders into doing your bidding.

Maybe then answer for Michigan and Noter Dame is a swap of head coaches?

This reader KNOWS that Lloyd Carr coached Wolverine teams over the past 2 seasons - while maybe not the answer to Michigan's national title hopes and Ohio State wins - would never have won 3 last year nor lost so many already this season with 2 more "plow unders" remaining on the schedule.

I guess for Purdue, it's not cheating if you're not caught.

-Yeah cuz the last coach hired from Stanford did so well - where - oh yeah at Notre Dame - no way hiring Harbaugh to MI would be a wise move man. MI - ND comparisons bad enough as is with their coaching nightmares.
