Do the Bearcats have QB conundrum?

Before Tony Pike suffered an injury to his non-throwing forearm, he was a serious Heisman Trophy candidate for an undefeated Cincinnati team that was climbing up the polls.

In the three games he's missed, backup Zach Collaros has come in and been, well, spectacular in keeping the Bearcats unbeaten and on target for a BcS bid.

In particular, Collaros was utterly magnificent in the Bearcats back and forth with UConn Saturday.  The sophomore accounted for 555 yards of total offense -- 480 passing and 75 rushing.  He had two rushing touchdowns and one passing TD as well.

All told, Collaros has thrown for 1,028 yards and run for another 149 in his three starts.  Better yet, he's thrown eight touchdowns to zero interceptions in the starts.

Add it all up, and it would seem that head coach Brian Kelly has a tough decision to make: go back to his senior starter, or Pipp Pike in favor of the hot hand.

Acknowledging that Collaros has "made it hard", Kelly says he's rethinking his stance that Pike wouldn't lose his job to injury.

"I think I'll have to reconsider my position," Kelly said.  "We'll have to wait for West Virginia [this Friday]."
