In the latest BcS rankings release, Texas Christian -- TCU to their friends -- has moved from No. 6 to No. 4 behind the usual suspects Florida, Alabama and Texas.
That troika is interesting in and of itself as the Tide jumped past the Longhorns although, again, the placement of the Big Three really doesn't matter as it's looking more than inevitable that the title game will be between the winner of the SEC championship game and Texas. Provided, of course, that the three parties fulfill their duties and win out.
The computers seem to have a bug up their hard drive about the Longhorns, though. While they are ranked No. 2 in both the Harris and coaches' polls, Texas comes in just fifth in the eyes of the computers. 'Bama is No. 2 with the machines, which helped them "overcome" their No. 3 rankings in the other two parts of the BcS formula.
Anyway, back to TCU. The Horned Frogs jumped (get it?) Cincinnati to get in the top four as the Bearcats remained stuck in neutral at No. 5. Fellow NAQ Boise State also moved up a spot to No. 6.
Georgia Tech and Southern Cal jumped ahead three spots each to No. 7 and No. 9, respectively. Interestingly, LSU moved up a spot to No. 8 despite the fact that they lost to No. 2 'Bama. Iowa fell six spots to No. 10 to round out the Top Ten.
The biggest move of the week belonged to Ohio State, which rode their win against now-No. 18 Penn State in Happy Valley from No. 16 to No. 11.
What would happen if TCU and Boise State are the only undefeated teams remaining and are 1 - 2 in the BCS standings?
"What would happen if TCU and Boise State are the only undefeated teams remaining and are 1 - 2 in the BCS standings?"
Theoretically, they would play each other for the title, as BCS #1 and BCS #2 are automatically in the title game.
But, the coaches would never let it happen. The coaches would move them down in thier poll far enough that the Harris and computers couldn't save thier top two spots. The SEC champ will be #1 in the final coaches poll, regardless of record, and they'd vote another one of the 1 loss teams #2
UC has a tougher schedule than either TCU or Boise, and if they win out, they will naturally move up to 4th, then at least 3rd after the SEC title game. And with UC ahead of Texas in the computers and Texas playing nothing but creampuffs, it isn't hard to imagine an undefeated Bearcats playing for the BCS title if they can get a bunch of style points.
Gah, what a bunch of fools you all are trying to predict who will be playing in the BCS title game. Keith Arnold says it's going to be notre dame.
Oh, BTW, Florio, have you fired Keith yet? If not, please do.
