Freshman Brock Osweiler replaced Sullivan in the second half, and is who the fans want to see under center in the midst of a disappointing 4-5 season, but Erickson said he's not going to bend to anyone's wishes if it's not the best thing for his program right now.
"I've got to do what gives us the best chance to win," Erickson said. "Maybe it's not the most popular decision, but it's a decision that I've got to make to give our football team the best way to win."
Erickson said part of the reason he made the switch at the half was "because I wanted to get some energy on offense, which Brock brought to us."
That energy is also a double-edged sword for the coach, and is the reason why he's not yet ready to commit to the freshman, especially in an environment such as Autzen Stadium.
"However, there were times that his inexperience came out too, as far as not throwing it to the correct place in the fourth quarter," Erickson said. "You've got weigh all these factors."
