Swinney has a million reasons to keep winning

At 4-2 in conference play, Clemson sits atop the ACC Atlantic division and is just a win away against either North Carolina State or Virginia from making it to the league title game.

According to the Charleston Post & Courier, head coach Dabo Swinney has a few hundred thousand reasons -- and perhaps more than a million -- to hope the winning ACC ways continue.

Per Swinney's contract, his guaranteed compensation would increase from its current $800,000 to the average of all conference coaches if the Tigers appear in the ACC championship game.  The median salary right now is $1.7 million.

Should the Tigers advance to the title game and down their opponent -- likely No. 7 Georgia Tech -- Swinney's guaranteed compensation would be tied to the average of the top seven coaches in the league.  That median is $2 million.

In other words, Swinney stands to gain an additional $900,000 to $1.2 million if his Tigers continue to roll through the ACC.

Of course, money isn't the prime motivator for most coaches -- winning is, obviously -- but the financial bonuses sure the hell don't hurt.

You do realize that there is a difference in median salary and average salary, don't you? Big difference there
