Corwin Brown steamed at Navy coach and cheapshot

Notre Dame associate head coach Corwin Brown met with the media yesterday and before he turned the page to Pitt had a few choice comments for Navy head coach Ken Niumataolo.

Brown was upset with Niumatalolo's postgame comments where he called out the subpar game plan the Irish coaches put together for stopping Navy's option attack, but tried to hedge his comments by saying "I really hope this doesn't come across wrong."

(Ask Bill Parcells how that one went, coach.)

"I thought it was very disappointing what the Navy head coach said after the game. He didn't want something to be misconstrued, but then he said it, regarding how we prepared and what we prepared to do. Whether you think it's the right thing to say or not, in this profession, all the classy guys that I've watched and played under and studied, they would never say a thing like that. To say that we didn't prepare well or have a game plan, that's crazy."

What got Brown even more heated was a slew of illegal cutblocks that Navy continued to make. Specifically, the block on Irish defensive back Robert Blanton. We had the Irish video guys pull the play to get a better look.

Tough not to understand why Brown was upset.

"I don't ever get up here and talk about the illegal cut blocks. They hit Puppy (Brian Smith) illegally last year, and put him out. They hit RJ (Robert Blanton) on one of the most malicious plays I've ever seen since I've been playing and I called him about it."

I talked more about the bad blood brewing in the up to now respectful rivalry over at the Inside the Irish blog.

Shut up Keith. You're a horrible reporter and every one of your stupid posts about notre dame is heavily biased. Just a little reporting hint, when you write an article about someone taking issues about comments...give a link to said comments so we can all form an opinion. I know you only want to give the Crying Irish perspective, but you write for CFT (hopefully not for much longer though). Since you're not smart enough to post it, here's what Niumataolo said.

"I think the one thing that helped us, and I really hope this doesn't come across wrong, but I think the thing that helped us this year was last year because we knew that they'd line up the same way.”

Hello! That's called GAME PREPARATION. Nothing at all wrong with saying that. That notre dame coach needs to be smacked for his rebuttal, and where does an assistant coach get off making comments like that anyway? Brown was completely classless to respond that way.

With regards to the "cheapshot," the player got flagged for it, end of story. For that retarded coach to say it was the most malicious plays he'd ever seen is absolutely ridiculous, or he's only been a coach for a week. Florida player Spikes trying to gouge another players eyes out is malicious. It's all just sour grapes by notre dame. Ya lost, ya suck, get over it.

Let's not talk about the refs giving practically every damn call to notre dame as it is, but here's a few gems that your beloved notre dame players have done.

Good idea Corwin. You get dropped at home by a service academy for the 2nd time in 3 years, and you want to rip the Navy coach for his post game comments. You work for Charlie Weiss who told the world that Notre Dame would have a schematic advantage in every game he coached in and has done nothing but act like an arrogant ass and lose since he got the job.
You accused the Navy players of being dirty with their chop blocks. Nice move, jackass! They have to block low to run the option since they are outweighed 50 lbs a man in almost every game they play. By the way, these "dirty" players will be risking their lives defending your freedom for the next 4 years and beyond, hoping that they don't get there legs blown off during their service.
It's bad enough you and Weiss can't coach that team up to not disappoint your fans and embarass your alumni, but you have to compound it by crying about what Navy did to your team.
You are an embarassment and so is your program.

What's with "I don't ever get up here and talk about cut blocks", followed by telling of two cut block incidents? The record of predictions by
chuck and jimmy would qualify them to work in that area for Sports illustrated. I think N.D. was supposed to have two national championships by now.

Take your crappy Cryin Irish slanted stories back to your crappy Crin Irish blog where you belong Arnold. A pretender like the cupcake scheduling Irish whine like crazy when one of those cupcakes rises up and eats them.

Navy handed the Irish their A$$ in ND stadium twice now during the Weis era after 43 straight years.

ND remains a 1-AA team riding the laurals of teams from pre-1950. The real reason they aren't in a conference is because nobody will take the Cryers in any of the leagues, not because ND doesn't want to join.

Why no mention by Brown of "Little Jimmy's" personal foul at the end of the game?

Well, I guess I too would be frustrated if I recognized that Navy just decomissioned the U.S.S. Weiss...

navy's coach and navy's student athletes will have plenty of opportunities to explain their malicious chop blocks, each of which required a 15 yard penalty, but with a few exceptions, were ignored by the game officials in front of judges and juries in real courts and before the naval academy's own honor code committee.
unlike corwin brown, we are not muzzled by the so caled sportmanship conduct rules(aka keep quiet about the dishonest officials and dirty players.
any team can appear to be playing very well if they are given carte blanche to use illegal chop blocks and do so.
nice to see you over here also, keith

Keith....yours and Browns take are awful weak...after hearing what the Navy coach actually said versus what Brown claimed he said...well you ought to be embarrassed to put forth your argument....are you a sports journalist or are you a Notre Dame homer and apologist?

  9. WetHog says: November 16, 2009 11:13 AM ET

Weiss and his band of merry men were braggin about their Defenses performance last year shutting down Navy's running game all week leading up to this game and Navy ran all over the Irish and Coach Ken called them out. Now the defensive coach from ND wants to bitch? Talk about class....

    @robertg

Good luck with the court thing and you should stop smokin that ROCK.
