Updating this ongoing story, Nu’Keese Richardson is the only one of the three Tennessee players arrested for attempted armed robbery early Thursday morning still behind bars.
According to the Knoxville News Sentinel, defensive back Mike Edwards has been released; it’s unclear whether Edwards posted his $19,500 bond or if he was released on his own recognizance.
Safety Janzen Jackson was released on his own recognizance after originally being held in lieu of a $15,000 bond.
Edwards and Richardson have been accused by the three victims of attempting to rob them as they sat in their vehicle outside of a convenience store. Jackson was rumored to be inside the store at the time of the incident and has proclaimed his innocence through his attorney.
All three have been charged with three counts of attempted armed robbery.
The status of the players as far as the Tennessee football program is concerned has yet to be determined.
wow, as much as I hated Kitten and I think these kids are fcking idiots….
Someone from the football program should come over and bail him out. You send your kids to school and he was a highly touted recruit. He made a stupid ghetto mistake which I am sure he is very sorry now.
Kitten should go bail him out and take some lessons from the way they handled things in Oregon. Dont abandon the kid. He could use some guidance. Just go to show the character that is of Kitten.
—-Janzen Jackson was inside of the Pilot Food Mart while Richardson, Edwards and a female remained outside. The four were in the female’s 2010 Toyota Prius and parked next to a car. According to reports, Edwards and Richardson approached the other car with what looked like a semi-automatic handgun and demanded the occupants of the other vehicle to “give them everything they had” … the victims “showed the assailants their empty wallets”.
At this time Jackson exited the store and stated “We gotta go” and the four left in the Prius and were apprehended a short time later by the Knoxville Police Department.
At the time of the arrest, KPD found a Co2 pellet gun underneath the backseat, clothes that the victims had described in the car, a marijuana grinder, and a bag of marijuana (on the female).
To top it off, reportedly, two of the criminals were asked why they did it. The answer? “We were bored”.—-
If all of that turns out to be true, of if Kiffin is believing it to be true, I’d leave his ass in jail for a while too. Bored?! Yeah, sit in a cement room and learn the meaning of boring.
All three of these morons should be off the team, especially Janzen Jackson. Jackson was on probation when the incident occurred. If accessory to armed robbery while on probation does not get you kicked off the team what would? I have trouble buying the argument that he was innocent, without foreknowledge and upon discovering his friends in the midst of attempted armed robbery told them “we’ve got to go”. “We’ve got to go” sounds more like something a lookout would say. First, if he is on probation what is he doing at a Pilot station at 2:00 am with armed friends and some random chick with a bag of weed? Shouldn’t he have a curfew? Second if I were with some buddies and upon stepping out of a convenience store saw them pointing a firearm (pellet gun or not) at strangers my first reaction would not be stating,”we’ve got to go”. My response would be more along the lines of, “What in God’s name are you idiots doing?”. These kids need to go immediately. Please Kiffin, give them a release and let them play elsewhere if anyone else will have them. There should be zero tolerance for this type of behavior regardless of how much talent a player brings to the table. The whole thing is mind blowing. It is almost comical.
