Ohio State sneaks away with an overtime win over Iowa

Not many people gave Iowa a chance at beating Ohio State after losing Ricky Stanzi, but there the Hawkeyes were, scoring late on a bizarre sequence before sending the game to overtime.

But in overtime, the Hawkeyes only went backwards, going extra conservative, taking a big loss on a sack that pushed them out of field goal range and forced the Hawkeyes to throw a Hail Mary on 4th and 26 from midfield.

Ohio State took their turn going extra conservative, running the ball three times before depending on backup kicker Devin Barclay in overtime to seal it.

The win moves Ohio State into the Rose Bowl and a date with Michigan (aka the USS RichRod) to end the season.

With USC getting absolutely blown out by Stanford and the Pac-10 up in the air, it's still to be determined who Ohio State will be playing in the Grand Daddy of them all.

Hawkeyes hung tough and have nothing to be shamed of, but I would have liked them to have taken a cou0ple of chances with a minute left in regulation.

Go back to the Cryin Irish blog Arnold.

Let me know if you need any info about where to go while you're in St Pete watching the Cryin Irish play USF in the 2d annual St Pete Bowl.

I suppose its a matter of perspective Keith - your Cryers also "squeeked" out another loss to a top 10 team - AGAIN - yesterday.

Beware the looming Cardinal a$$ bite coming at the end of another miserable Irish season against America's cupcakes. Great play this season beating the the 2 Apple Bowl participants.

The Irish aren't welcome in any conference - thats why they are "Independent"; they can "Independently" play all the other "Independents" and cupcakes.

Responses are running 100% that Ferentz should have tried the fieldgoal in regualtion time. But alas, Tressel isn't the only one who suffers from conservatism...
