Exactly 14 days ago, Oregon laid waste to Southern Cal’s stranglehold on the Pac-10 with a 47-20 beating in Eugene.
Today, Stanford added insult to injury by urinating all over the smoldering embers of the Trojans’ reign. Then danced a little. Then peed a lil’ bit more.
And all of this occurred in USC’s living room, with the Cardinal’s muddy Dockers up on the coffee table to boot.
On the strength of 27 fourth-quarter points, the Cardinal pounded the Trojans 55-21 in Los Angeles in A Conference Beat Down, the Sequel for the ages. Again, because it bears repeating: 55-21 in LA.
It was not only the worst loss of Pete Carroll‘s prolific USC career — topping the Duck whacking just two weeks ago — but it was the worst loss for the program since 1966 — Notre Dame 51, USC 0. It was also the most points the program has ever allowed in a single game.
Stanford running back Toby Gerhart put a serious punctuation on his late-season Heisman push, rushing for 176 yards and three touchdowns against the once-vaunted Trojan defense. Freshman quarterback Andrew Luck threw for 144 yards, two touchdowns and, most importantly, no interceptions in the win.
Luck’s freshman counterpart Matt Barkley, on the other hand, had a miserable outing. In fact, it was likely his worst performance as a Trojan as the ballyhooed frosh tossed three interceptions, including one in the fourth quarter that was returned for a game-icing touchdown.
Even with Barkley’s rookie missteps, it was the USC defense that has the onus for a third 2009 loss hanging on their once-proud shoulders. In the last three games, USC has allowed 862 yards rushing — 391 to Oregon, 146 to Arizona State, and 325 to Stanford.
USC held the second-highest ranking of the two-loss team in the BcS standings heading into this weekend. With two losses by a combined 61 points and a narrow five-point win on the road against Arizona State wedged in between, it remains to be seen whether or not they can hang in there to remain in the Top 25 when the latest rankings are released Sunday evening.
I’d be surprised if they fall out of the top 25. Only because they are the beloved Trojans. Oklahoma had to lose almost half its games before it finally dropped from the top 25.
the emasculation of the usc full time football players on the field is just the very tip of a very ugly iceberg which has finally hit petey and mikey’s crooked usc football program.
petyey and his staff and mikey and his staff will not be back next season. you may be able to find them in brazil.
yes, even after these 3 losses, usc may be able to buy its way into the top 25 in some poll, but usc is eliminated from winning the pac 10 conference championship and from any hope of another bcs bowl bid, along with being cut off from usc’s usually dependable crooked pac 10 officiating crews since new pac 10 commissioner larry scott got so disgusted with the pac 10 officiating crews which stole wins for usc from notre dame and oregon state that larry scott made every pac 10 official personally accountable to him and fired a number of pac 10 officials.
usc always has had trouble whenn they have not had crooked officials in their pockets.
things at troy are going to get a lot worse before they get better.

I couldn’t think of a more appropriate way to put this, well said.
