The two sides had agreed on a contract extension back in February, but the poor economy forced the university to put the extension on the backburner.
Now, though, athletic director Bob Bowlsby said that people can "expect... an announcement soon."
As for those fans and alums that are fearful of Harbaugh leaving for greener pastures -- coughcoughMichigancoughcough -- Bowlsby says his coach isn't going anywhere anytime soon.
"Jim's not going any place. No one should panic. Jim wants to be at Stanford "... I think he'll tell you the same thing," the AD said.
The three-year extension Harbaugh had agreed to was reportedly worth $1.25 million a year. Given the direction of the program under Harbaugh, it would seem like the university might want to consider tweaking the financial particulars upward to ensure "Jim wants to be at Stanford."
And to thwart some cash-soaked football program from coming into Palo Alto and dropping bags of jack on Harbaugh's doorstep.
"Dropping bags of jack"? Ugh, you just reminded me of Jim Rome...please never do that again.
great thing for harbaugh and for stanford. stanford's real student athletes played a great game against usc's 4 and 5 star full time football players.
however, there are other factors operating which explain the meltdown of the usc football program both on the field and off the field.
those with decision making authority about the usc athletc department have finally seen the light;namely, that the great coverup escapes from the bushgate and many other cheating incidents in the usc athletic department are simply not viable after our big disclosure win in the the civil courts over the ncaa forcing the ncaa to release to the public every document relating to the ncaa investigation of academic fraud at florida state with every document relating to the ncaa investigation of usc cheating soon to be available to the public on the internet and with every ncaa investigator subject to having their depositions taken to try to explain why, despite the overwhelming evidence, the ncaa has done nothing.
we already know the real answers-cash payoffs via the usual ncaa channels for such matters.
in addition, after new and honest pac 10 commissioner larry scott got disgusted watching crooked pac 10 officiating crews steal wins for usc from notre dame and oregon state, larry scott took personal charge of pac 10 football officiating from long term con artists jim muldoon and dave cutaia, made the pac 10 officials personally accountable to scott and fired quite a few.
but for scott's intervention and the feelings of imminent dread that have spread throughout usc's football players, stanford's win never would have happened.
we are not forgetting about the very serious problems at the sec, the big east, the big 10, and virtually every other conference and at the ncaa and at many other schools.
however, by virtue of their hubris busting attempted coverup tactics, petey and mikley and the usc athletic department have earned star billing in these matters with slive of the sec and parry of college football officiating llc certainly having earned star billing also.
harbaugh does not let money rule his decisions. harbaugh will stay at stanford with or without the big bucks.
