Kragthorpe: 'I'm not going any place voluntarily'

If Louisville is indeed going to make a coaching change in the near future, they’re apparently going to have to pry the job from Steve Kragthorpe‘s cold, dead fingers.

The future of the current Cardinals head coach has been the subject of much speculation this season — hell, he’s already been the subject of one cyber firing in 2009 — and the subject came up again in his talk with the media Monday.  At least outwardly, Kragthorpe remains unconcerned.

“I have no idea what my future holds, I have no idea what tomorrow holds,” Kragthorpe said. ”I’m planning on being here. I’m not going any place voluntarily, so if it’s involuntarily — I can’t answer that question.”

The speculation about Kragthorpe’s future in Louisville has been all over the board this year, from the aforementioned his-job’s-already-gone report to a national writer tossing Chucky’s name into the mix.

Now comes word that a certain pirate may have a future in the ‘Ville.

According to a website called FootballRumorMilll.com, Texas Tech head coach Mike Leach might be the object of Louisville’s desire.

Well placed sources tell Football Rumor Mill that Texas Tech Head Coach Mike Leach and Louisville have a mutual interest in each other.

Of course, Leach signed a three-year contract extension this past February that would presumably keep him at Texas Tech through 2013.  However, one of the clauses that led to a contentious round of contract talks was removed from the final deal and could pave the way for Leach to bolt at any time.

The new agreement signed by Leach nine months ago contains no buyout clause, which obviously would be appealing to any school looking to upgrade their coaching position.  TT officials had originally looked to have a $1.5 million buyout inserted into the contract.

Not only that, but a clause that would’ve prevented Leach from talking to other schools without permission was removed as well.

In other words, Leach is free to flirt with any school at any time he so desires.  And he’s free to consummate that flirtation without any type of financial repercussions.

All I know is, I want Leach’s agent to represent me in my next round of contract talks with my wife…
