Report: KU probing Mangino-player ‘incident’

Citing an unnamed source, the Kansas City Star is reporting that Kansas officials are looking into an incident between head coach Mark Mangino and one of his players.

According to the report, players met with athletic director Lew Perkins to discuss concerns that have arisen from the incident, of which there are no details available.

The source said players at the meeting, at which Mangino was not present, were invited to bring forward information in front of a formal panel. The source said there is an organized group of former players’ parents ready to air their concerns about Mangino as well.

Perkins refused to get into any type of specifics.

“It involves a personnel matter, and as a result, is confidential,” Perkins said in the statement. “It would be inappropriate for me to provide further information right now.”

The Jayhawks have inexplicably lost five straight games, which just adds to this apparent situation between Mangino and one of his players.

Could this be enough to tip the scales and push Mangino onto the coaching hot seat? That’s an unknown at this point in time, but it certainly doesn’t help.
