Stockstill removes name from Memphis job hunt

Less than two days after asking for and receiving permission to interview Rick Stockstill, the Middle Tennessee head coach has removed his name from consideration for the opening at Memphis.

Stockstill told the Memphis Commercial-Appeal that he was flattered by the interest, but is pulling his name so that the school can concentrate on other candidates and he can concentrate on getting his current team bowl eligible.

"I am very flattered and honored with the interest that the University of Memphis has shown in me and the MTSU football program,'' Stockstill said. "However, at this time I am only focusing on our remaining two games and hopefully a bowl game."

Head coach Tommy West was fired on Nov. 9, but will finish out the remainder of the season.

The school hopes to have a new coach named by the end of this month.
