According to a report on ESPN.com, a decision on Weis' fate could come very shortly after the end of the 2009 regular season. Speaking to the website, athletic director Jack Swarbrick said that there is no set timeframe for a decision, but mentioned that it was within a week of the end of the 2008 regular season that the decision was made to retain Weis.
"I don't have a timetable," Swarbrick said. "Last year, it was within a week of the regular season."
The Irish finish the regular season with a Nov. 28 game at now-No. 17 Stanford. Two people will then officially decide Weis future in South Bend -- Swarbrick and university President Rev. John I. Jenkins -- although there will be many people whose opinions will count heavily toward the final decision.
Swarbrick, who said there are no set parameters for deciding to retain Weis -- "It's more art than science." -- admitted that the biggest disappointment of 2009 was "the Navy outcome." It was the Irish's second loss to the service academy in the last three years, with both losses coming in South Bend.
If Weis is indeed let go, it seems as if that loss to the Midshipmen may prove to be the final straw for the private school.
"Up until the Navy game we were in the BCS conversation," Swarbrick said. "We didn't see that one coming."
Swarbrick also reiterated that no final decision has been made on Weis, but the tea leaves in both the local and national reports read like there is a definite lean one way on Weis' future.
And that lean will likely result in an eight-figure financial parachute being deployed at some point in early December.

Keith is your pal, not ours.
Stanford is for all the cards.
I bet that if he beats them, he'll get one more season to WIN a BCS bowl. If he loses, I don't think they'll keep him.
That said, I think they should keep him regardless of the Stanford outcome. I can't think of any AVAILABLE coaches that would:
A) Do any better than him next year.
B) Recruit better than him.
If anything, keep him another year and actively (behind the scenes) seek out a replacement while he keeps the Blue Chip recruits coming in.
Evan - really? Let me help you out:
Coaches to replace Weis: (1) Bob Stoops (2) Brian Kelly (3) Kyle Wittingham (4) Charlie Strong (5) Chris Peterson (6) Mike Shanahan (7) Bill Cowher . . . I'm not sure that any of these coaches would actually take the job but I'm willing to bet the Kelly and Strong would jump at the chance.
Also, recruiting is not the problem. The team playing this year are all Weis recruits. There is talent all over that team - and another top recruiting class changes nothing. Its the coaching. Look at the mistakes being made late in the season, the penalites, bad decision making etc . . . thats coaching not talent. ND was suckered by Weis and foolishly paid him big bucks on a long contract. Time to admit the truth and move on.
Gator
Now you cannot say that Charlie suckered ND into paying him big bucks. That is crazy. They went to him and offered the bucks, you and I both would jump all over that. Don't misrepresent the facts to make Charlie look bad here.
As for your other points I agree with most. I would still add Urban to the coaching mix. I still think he will take the job for the right $$. This will give him an opportunity to become a legend.
the decision has already been made.
charlie and his staff will be back next season and for the forseeable future.
only the public anouncement remains and that will happen much sooner than stated here, along with a public anouncement of the university of notre dame's outrage with the current corrupt officiating, rules enforcement, and rankings systems in college football and in college sports and demands for immediate changes.
in ireland, a soccer match took place on wednesday between the irish national team and the french nation team to determine which team would advance in the world cup matches.
one of the french players was awarded a goal by the game officials scored after touching the ball 2 times with his hands(for any player in soccer, touching the soccer ball with any player's hands is illegal and, if it happens, possession must be awarded to the other team). the french player admitted doing so after the game which is currently listed on paper as a one goal win bt france over ireland.
it all came out on youtube, from many angles, as clearly as the many instances of dishonest officiating which have been exposed this season by officials in every conference, with the sec taking the prize so far, but with the other conference, including the big east, not far behind.
the reaction, as reported in the press is as follows:
"Ireland has thrown down the gaunlet to France to replay a World Cup qualifier match after Les Bleus striker Thierry Henry handballed before a crucial goal,,,the foul play outraged irish fans and the team's assistant manager Liam Brady has now challenged the French to a rematch. He told Sky News"I would ask(Fifa( the soccer equivant of the ncaa) president Sepp Blatter) Blatter to take a look at this, I would ask the French(Soccer) Federation to have a look at this,Iwould ask Thierry Henry to have a look at this and say,"do you want to play the game again in Paris? We'll play in Paris..."
my relatives in ireland are outraged, as are our realtives all over this world, most of whom have dual citizenship, as i do.
our relatives in ireland and quite a few in france have asked for the assistance of our experts, not only in providing the zoom in features that our equipment makes possible, but in providing the tiny high tech cameras and sensors which our techies have developed to make such dishonest officiating impossible in the future.
we are providing that assistance, but not diverting and resources or attention away from our evidence gathering and civil litigations all over the us.
before high tech and the internet and civil rico litigations and we came along, crooked officials and the proprietors of crooked sports enterprises in the united states and all over the world could get away with these con operations.
now, except for the possibility of brazil(no extradition treaties), these con artists have no futures and nowhere to run and nowhere to hide from our civil rico lawsuits.
by the way, brazil is a signatory to the international enforcement of civil judgments treaty with the us, as is every nation, with the exceptions of iran and north korea and a few other places which would simply not be nice destinations for anyone.
those who want to fess up and settle out of court still have an open window and new evidence keeps pouring in every single day, isolating the people and entities with whom we will not settle out of court under any circumstances.
those people know who they are and they just might try brazil or costa rica or switzerland or some other place where they thing that they and their assets will be safe.
we invite them to try.
Letting CW stay at ND for even another week only means that there will be one more LOSS to his record. Isn't it bad enough that CW has the record for the "Worst" just about everything at ND. Why make his win/loss average worse than it already is.
Get rid of him, and do it this week.
Yes, yes, next year will not be good for the Irish if they give the boot to one guy and bring in another. But that would be true even if CW stays. The difference though is that keeping CW only postpones ND getting back on track.
GatorAider is right. There are several GOOD Coaches that could replace CW. I'd like to see Mike Shanahan lead the Irish. He's even got the right kind of name!
