Badger lineman likely out until bowl season

Any hope that offensive tackle Josh Oglesby would be able to play through the pain of a knee injury has been dashed after it was decided the lineman will undergo surgery.

The starting tackle suffered a knee injury Nov. 7 against Purdue, and it was thought that sitting out last weekend’s game might allow Oglesby to return this weekend.

That wasn’t the case, and surgery will be performed in the very near future to repair the damage.

“We thought he could play with it and it looks like that’s probably not going to be the case,” head coach Bret Bielema said after practice Thursday night. “We might get him in (surgery) tomorrow but probably Monday.”

Oglesby is pointing toward a return for the Badgers’ regular-season finale against Hawaii in early December, but it seems more likely that he won’t be able to return until their bowl game.

Junior Jake Bscherer will start in place of Oglesby Saturday against Northwestern.
