Less than two full years into his Georgia Tech career — and in the midst of talk that he would be a very attractive option for Notre Dame if/when Charlie Weis is shown the door — head coach Paul Johnson is the recipient of a one-year contract extension, the school announced this afternoon.
Johnson, who sports a 19-5 record with the Yellow Jackets, is now signed through the 2016 season.

Georgia Tech head football coach Paul Johnson agreed to aone-year extension to his current contract, which will now carry throughthe 2016 season.
The extension restores the agreement to the 7-year length the schoolhad negotiated with Johnson in December of 2008.
“It goes without saying how much we value what Paul Johnson continuesto do for the Georgia Tech program and the energy he has created withinthe Yellow Jacket family,” athletic director Dan Radakovich said.”We remain committed to Paul in every way, and we foresee along-term relationship with much continued success in the comingyears.”
In his second season with the Yellow Jackets, Johnson’s team is 10-1,ranked seventh in the BCS and will play for the ACC championship inTampa (Fla.) Dec. 5. Johnson is 19-5 since taking over the Georgia Techprogram in December, 2007. His winning percentage at Tech (.792) is thehighest in the history of the Yellow Jacket football program.
“We appreciate the confidence Dan Radakovich and the Georgia Techadministration have shown in our program,” Johnson said. “We lookforward to the opportunity to continue to build the program at GeorgiaTech.”
Johnson, whose career record is 126-44 in 13 seasons, is a candidatefor the Bear Bryant National Coach of the Year Award and the GeorgeMunger National Coach of the Year Award.
