As the son of the boss, you get looked at differently. And every mistake you make is magnified because of the relationship.
Thus, I can feel somewhat for Colorado head coach Dan Hawkins.
Speaking to the media this afternoon, Hawkins said he regretted bringing his son, Cody, in to be his quarterback. Yes, the younger Hawkins has seen some success -- he's thrown the most touchdown passes (46) in school history -- but Hawkins the coach was forced to bench Hawkins the football player earlier this year because of the son's performance.
Hawkins said if he had to do it all over again, he would not have recruited Cody.
"I wouldn't do it, and I'll tell you what, it's just because it's not fair to him," Hawkins said at his weekly news conference. "It happens like this everywhere around the country. When you win, everything's good. When you lose, everything's wrong."
Hawkins is in a bad way both job wise and family wise, so it's easy to sympathize what he's going through.
And it should also serve as a lesson to coaches all across the country at all levels -- let somebody else coach your kid. Especially when said kid plays the most scrutinized position on a football team.
Coach Hawkins - it was also unfair to the Buffalo fans who had to agonize over his inabilty to compete at any semblance of top levels in NCAA football... but I do understand the spin to give your son his dignity.
The Hawk has little to make this team significantly better, except for some CLOSE LOSSES to fair teams. Big Twelve contention.... not even remotely sniffing at it.
I fear the same for my Wolverines under double R.
Bad decision by the Coach to bring his son in . The kid , no matter what he does , is the " Coach's son " and will never get a fair shake . Oh well Colorado will get over it soon and life goes on . It's only football ! If you're suffering now Coach just think your son could be in Afganistan and you could agonize every night , praying to God he's still alive. Set your priorities in the right order . This is nothing compared to the thousands of families experiencing real " agony " every night . Football is just a game , played by young men for fun . Right ?

You are mixing apples and oranges. Don't even compare the two situation. So by your logic, families with kids in Afghanistan shouldnt complain because parents who have their daughters kidnapped, raped, sold into sex slavery, and killed have it harder. You are an idiot!
