Clausen's face used as speed bag?

Both the Chicago Tribune and ESPN.com are reporting that Notre Dame quarterback Jimmy Clausen was involved in an altercation outside of a South Bend bar very early Sunday.

Following the Irish's loss to UConn Saturday night -- the likely death knell for Charlie Weis' run as Irish head coach -- Clausen reportedly went to CJ's Pub with his parents and/or other family members.

According to the ESPN report and citing a person briefed on the incident, Clausen was "sucker-punched" as he left the establishment.  The source said that a fan allegedly said "something" to either Clausen or a female acquaintance.  The Tribune reports that the incident happened at 2:30 Sunday morning and left Clausen with at least one black eye.

No police reports had been filed over the incident at the time the Tribune story hit their website.

ESPN reports that any injuries Clausen incurred should not keep him out of this weekend's season finale against Stanford.

Enter the draft Jimmy. You did your best for that sorry program and their sorry fans.

Clausen is a 4th round pick at best. Too frail, not enough athleticism and and he is not a winner.

Clausen's the best QB in the draft (along with Jake Locker).

4th round pick? That's Tebow, Bradford, and McCoy you're talking about.

    Seeryer,

I bet you also said Vince Young had all the tools.

    Seeryer,
Vince Young does have all the tools... have you watched him play this year? I was one that said he didn't. I was wrong. He's playing very well with high confidence.

Jimmy will get his shot, but he'll go the way of Rich Mirer, Brady Quinn, and Jarious Jackson. He's no Joe Montana or JOe Theismann, not even Steve Beuerlein.

Clausen has the best receiving corps in the country and can't beat UConn or Navy.

I'm sure scouts are salivating at the prospect of a poor man's Brady Quinn gracing the NFL with his presence.

    QB's taken:

    1. Bradford

    2. Locker

    3. Clausen

Chemicalxv is right about one thing, neither Tebow or McCoy are NFL QB's

Clausen is gonna own the NFL just like Brady Quinn is... or um... have they even had a quarterback in the NFL since Montana? To even compare him to McCoy or Bradford is laughable, and while Tebow may not be an NFL quarterback, he's still got more potential to be useful in the NFL than Clausen does...

  8. chemicalxv says: November 24, 2009 11:30 AM ET

Yeah it's laughable to compare him to Bradford and McCoy seeing as he's not only a better QB, but a much better NFL prospect than either of them.

    QQ.

Who on earth actually has Clausen ahead of Bradford on their board?

While you can't put much stock in the TV experts, it does speak volumes that Bradford can suffer a devastating injury, sit out nearly the entire year, and still be regarded as the best QB prospect available.

Not to mention the fact that this occurred during the same breakout year as Clausen's laughable 6-5 season, where in his signature game he was outplayed by Matt Barkley.

Whoever punched Clausen should never have to pay for a drink in a bar for the rest of his life

Anyone who isn't a moron has Clausen above Bradford to answer your question

  12. dubstyle says: November 24, 2009 12:58 PM ET

Clausen, Bradford, McCoy and Tebow are all bums. The best NFL projected QB in the land is Ryan Mallett on Arkansas. Hes 3 years removed and doubtful that he will come out. I think it would benefit Clausen to stay an extra year.

  13. dubstyle says: November 24, 2009 1:00 PM ET

and for the record, Id take Dan LeFevour over Tebow, Clausen, McCoy, and Bradford any day.

A report I read about this on another news page gave a lot more details, including the fact that Clausen supposed hit/pushed the other guy first.

"The South Bend Tribune reports that a university source, who spoke on the condition of anonimity, said that Clausen had left C.J.'s Pub when his date realized she had forgotten her purse. While walking out of the bar, Clausen's date was pushed by a man, whom Clausen then pushed with his hands landing on the man's neck. The man then punched Clausen in the eye and the two wrestled to the ground for a few seconds before the fight was broken up."

Just out of curiosity, what does it mean if you push someone with your hands landing on their neck? And how is that different than choking them?

Either way, it's a very different picture than what CFT says above, which makes it sound like Clausen was an innocent little angel who got assaulted out of the blue.
