Cleared Jackson back on Rocky Top

One day after three charges of attempted armed robbery against him were dropped, safety Janzen Jackson has been cleared to rejoin all team activities effective today.

Head coach Lane Kiffin made the announcement via a statement released through the school.

"As I've said before, we wanted to take our time to get all the information regarding this situation. These were very serious allegations, and we had to make sure we handled this properly. After an extensive and thorough investigation by the Knoxville Police Department and the District Attorney's office, they have cleared Janzen of any wrong doing and determined he had no prior knowledge of this incident. Janzen will join team activities today.

"We hold our student-athletes to an extremely high standard on and off the field. Janzen has seen the effect personal decisions had on his former teammates and is excited to rejoin our team activities."

Jackson had missed the two games since his arrest, but was never officially suspended. He had been barred from all team activities for nearly two weeks, which essentially made it a suspension in every way but a name.

Shortly after the arrests, Jackson's attorney said that his client "vehemently asserts his innocence" and hoped to have all charges dropped.  According to various reports, it was Jackson's now-former teammates -- Nu'Keese Richardson and Mike Edwards -- who allegedly attempted to to hold up three males parked in a vehicle outside of a campus convenience store.

Jackson was apparently in the store as the attempted armed robbery -- which turned out to be done with a pellet gun -- went down without the defensive back's knowledge.

All three players, plus a female UT student, were later apprehended a short distance away from the store and arrested.

Any other SEC team would still suspend him for at least one-half just for associating with thugs.

    Oh yeah, it's Tennessee.
