According to head coach (for now) Charlie Weis, Armando Allen has a cracked bone in his right hand and will not be able to take the field against the Cardinal. Allen will likely undergo surgery today to repair the damage.
"He has a cracked bone in his right hand that he'll get fixed today, which will leave him probably out for this game," Weis said.
Allen, who leads the Irish with 697 yards on the ground, will likely be replaced in the starting lineup by the three-headed backfield of Robert Hughes, Theo Riddick and Jonas Gray.
Weis also refused to discuss the incident involving Jimmie Clausen in which which his starting quarterback was allegedly sucker punched by a fan outside of a campus bar early Sunday morning.
"We are talking about Stanford. You want to ask me a question about Stanford, I'm all ears," Weis said when asked about the Clausen situation.
The head coach did say that Clausen would practice today and would be the starter for the Stanford game.
While Weis isn't talking, some new details courtesy of the South Bend Tribune are beginning to trickle in regarding Clausen and the alleged fisticuffs.
According to a university source, speaking on the condition of anonymity, Clausen, some members of his family and some of his Notre Dame football teammates ended up at C.J.'s Pub hours after Notre Dame's 33-30 double-overtime loss to Connecticut on Saturday. The 22-year-old junior from Westlake Village left the restaurant/bar without incident initially, the source said. But Clausen's date forgot her purse inside. The two went back into get it about 2 a.m., and as they were leaving, Clausen's date was pushed by a man outside the bar.Words were exchanged between Clausen and the man, the source said. Clausen pushed the man away, with his hand landing in the man's neck area. The man then punched Clausen in the eye, and the two wrestled on the ground for a few seconds before the fight was broken up.
Police were called to the scene, but no police report has been filed as of this afternoon.
Notre Dame has a top RB? Allen wouldn't be the top RB at any school in a BCS conference. What a joke ND has become under Weiss. It is worse than Bama was under Shula.
I think the real news is Clausen has a girlfriend, ND QB's usually don't like girls.
Think the line should go "the man punched Clausen in the eye, with his fist landing in the eye area."
See Jimmy sportin' some extra eye black this w/e.
ND has a RB? i thought fat weis doesn't believe in the run game, Weis only believes in throwing on every down, and throwing a hoagie down his throat every second. ND is garbage even their QB can't even win a barfight with some useless drunk student.
john taylor and pft and cft,
thanks for the additional evidence for use at your civil court trials.
block and delete away. we print out everything before we hit submit.
I have never been a Notre Dame Fan because I always was bothered by the attention they received and they never seem to deliver on the hype. But this Clausen situation just shows that Notre Dame is no longer the elite fan base they claim to be. They have become the worst fans and system in college football. I hope they continue to fall as a program and that every good coach continues to reject them.
I think the fan should have punched Fat Charlie instead.
