Unexpectedly, USC's Williams medically cleared

So much for the pessimism of 24 hours ago.

Less than a day after the signs pointed to pointed to him not being available this weekend, wide receiver Damian Williams has been medically cleared to play for Southern Cal this weekend.

Williams is suffering from an ankle injury incurred Nov. 7 against Arizona State, and kept him out of the blowout loss to Stanford the following weekend.  Reports yesterday morning had the Trojans' leading receiver doubtful for this weekend's game with UCLA.

The improvement Williams' ankle has shown of late has even surprised his head coach.

"He got some stuff done today," head coach Pete Carroll said. "He was running pretty smooth... way better than I thought he would today. It was a big plus for him."
