Slowly but surely, C.J. Spiller has been creeping his way into any serious Heisman discussion as the season winds its way to a close.
The way the Clemson running back/return specialist began today’s game with Clemson will do nothing to slow down that discussion.
Spiller had an electrifying start to the Gamecocks game, stunning the home crowd by returning the opening kickoff 88 yards for a touchdown.
The senior has now scored an NCAA Div. 1-A record seven touchdowns on kick returns, and he went over 7,000 yards of total offense on the return.
With perceived front runner Mark Ingram having a very off day in Alabama’s win over Auburn, Spiller could make the same kind of statement Colt McCoy made Thursday night and close the gap in the race for the Heisman.
Apparently from the talk this weekend, the Heisman trophy is an award given to the best performer in Thanksgiving weekend rivalry games.
rolltide’s panties are in a bunch because his heisman candidate dropped a goose egg yesterday.
Yeah man, I’m feeling the anguish of back to back 12-0 regular season sweeps.
If the Heisman voters only go with the first half-minute of the game at ‘Cocky Top, maybe. But after three, Clemson’s getting handled and Spiller’s done nothing since the return.
And that has remained the only score for Clemson. I’m a Clemson fan, Spiller might be my favorite college player this year, but he shouldn’t win the Heisman.

@ rolltide . . .
Nice.
Spiller never had a chance – for some reason the Heisman now goes to the best player on the best team instead of the best player in the country. I mean really -people are falling all over themselves because McCoy ripped up the 11th worst pass defense in the country? Tebow destroys a horrific Florida State defense? My vote would go to either Suh or Gerhart.
