After his team's 45-38 loss to Stanford on Saturday night, Notre Dame coach Charlie Weis didn't meet with reporters.
Instead, he did a postgame radio interview, and a transcript of it was given to reporters who would have preferred to actually pose questions directly to Weis.
Here's what he said, via the Chicago Tribune.
On the loss: "It was a
microcosm of our season. We're up 38-30, then they come down and score
and then they go for two to tie. You figure, 'Here we go again.' . . . They move the ball down there and then we go, 'What are we doing
letting them score?' I figured it was the only way to get us an
opportunity to score. We get it down there to the 30-yard line with an
opportunity to get it in the end zone, crazier things have happened,
and we just played short. It's just the way the year's been."
On Jimmy Clausen and Golden Tate: "The
both of them are just awesome. They put in phenomenal performances.
Everyone was wondering if we were going to show up or not, and they
did. They certainly answered the bell."
On Stanford's Toby Gerhart:
"He's a big, physical runner. Everyone thinks he runs north-south, but
they run him to the edge a lot on a toss or a toss-sweep. When he gets
to the edge, you're in trouble."
On the end of the season:
"I feel really bad for the outgoing players. I think too many times we
forget that these guys are kids. There's a bunch of 22-, 23-year-old
young men right there finishing out their career losing the last four
games. They feel miserable and I feel miserable for them."
Weis likely will be feeling even more miserable once he gets the official word that his time in South Bend has come to an end. Then again, by all appearances, he already knew that Saturday night's game would be his last game before it even started.
Weis doesn't meet with reporters, does radio interview instead

robertg - I KNOW you're going to write another STUPID comment because this is a Noter Dame story.
The answer to all your problems with cft/pft is simple - stop reading and posting in this forum.
The Bucs O coordinator job may be a nice fit for Charlie - and Raheem can have the distinction of firing 2 O-co's in one season.
If Charlie is smart - he takes it easy, finally gets the fat reduction surgery, and enjoys spending all those Irish dollars they still have to pay him. The perfect job for him would be on NBC as the Noter Dame football analyst for next season. Then he could have the pleasure of skewering his successor every week.
well, if it is not the infamous mike florio himself.
yet more wire fraud for civil rico purposes. the video and audio of charlie's entire post game interview are posted at und.com.
why should he meet with any media con artist shills such as you and your associates?
we know that you were an attorney in west virginia, but that you have never tried or won any real civil cases.
taking the position that you and your associates lacked the required low level of intent for civil rico purposes will be impossible, ass you will find out for yourselves in the civil courts all over the us.
you could try brazil for yourself and leave the others hanging out to dry.
Charley found out you can't win with just offense like in the NFL. You need to play defense. Charley didn't...bye-bye
I tried to read robertg's post once... I thought I could make sense of it.
dont worry all, according to Robert, Charlie will be back next year and everyone else is a lying charlatan. Since this prediction is obviously working out as Robert wisely stated, there should be little doubt as to his genius. What's that? All of his posts have turned out wrong not to mention his grasp of grammar and reality are at the fourth grade level? Nevermind everyone.
@ IrishOne: You'd best watch yourself, buster, or else you'll find yourself in the same pickle that myself and Mike Florio currently find ourselves in. Careful messin' with the g-man...

Weis is a decent guy, just NOT a head coach.
Next year, he'll be the Offensive Coordinator for the Bears or Nebraska. Both would be excellent fits.
Bo and Lovie are good on defense, but that offense was/is horribly PAINFUL to watch with a capital OUCH!
The Nebraska O was hot poker to the genitals painful. They made the CU defense look intimidating.
That said, SUH will wear silver and blue with the Lions next year... I hope.
