0 -- Days spent as a head coach by Jimbo Fisher (pictured) until after Florida State's bowl game. We find it amazing that so many pushed so long and so hard for the end of the Bobby Bowden era without any tangible sense of what kind of head coach the new 44-year-old Seminole boss will be. Virginia won't be hiring anyone without head coaching experience in the next few weeks, but FSU made sure of that in December of 2007.
3 -- Timeouts in Rick Neuheisel's pocket when USC quarterback Matt Barkley took a knee on first down with 54 seconds remaining, while leading 21-7. Neuheisel's simple plan was to use all his timeouts and force the Trojans to punt with roughly 45 seconds left. That's plenty of time for a punt return for a touchdown (off a block or otherwise), onside kick, two quick passes, a Hail Mary score and two-point conversion. Voila ... UCLA 22, USC 21. Certainly the odds are astronomical, but stranger things have happened. But apparently those people so forceful in their heavy criticism of the Bruin head coach for calling the first timeout aren't aware that it's his duty to do everything within his power to give his team a chance to win every game, especially this one. Taunting your opponent after a rub-it-in score is optional. Trying to win isn't.
4 -- Times BYU quarterback Max Hall used the word "hate" in four sentences directed at Utah, following the Cougars' 26-23 victory in last Saturday's 91st renewal of the "Holy War." For the record, Hall said: "I don't like Utah. In fact, I hate them. I hate everything about them. I hate their program, their fans. I hate everything." The Mountain West Conference hated hearing all of that.
5 -- Pac-10 teams in the current AP Top-25. However, the league will only send one team to the Bowl Championship Series for the seventh consecutive season. Only two at-large selections have come from the Pac-10 during the tyrannical reign of the BCS (Oregon State in 2000-01 and USC in 2002-03).
6 -- Runners who have gained 102 or more yards on the ground against Notre Dame in its last four games. Stanford tank Toby Gerhart (pictured), who went for 205 yards and three touchdowns last Saturday versus the Irish, is the latest. He was preceded by Connecticut's Jordan Todman (130) and Andre Dixon (114), Pittsburgh's Dion Lewis (152), and Navy's Vince Murray (158) and Ricky Dobbs (102).
7 -- Career touchdowns off a kickoff return for Clemson superstar C.J. Spiller, which is a new Division I-A record. He established the mark on an 88-yard return to open last weekend's 34-17 loss at South Carolina. It was actually return number two for Spiller in that game. He was tackled at his own 25-yard line on his first effort, but an offsides penalty against the Gamecocks forced a re-kick. Unfortunately, for the Tigers, Spiller's longest run from scrimmage was just five yards, as he finished with 18 yards on nine carries.
9.9 -- Yards per pass attempt by Houston in its 73-14 victory over Rice last Saturday. That adds up to a lot of yards when you toss the ball 47 times. Three different Cougar quarterbacks completed 36 of those passes for 463 yards and surprisingly only three scores.
16 -- Conference games between Al Groh being named the ACC Coach of the Year in 2007 and getting fired by Virginia on Sunday. He won only five of those games over the course of his last two years with his alma mater. In nine seasons with the Cavaliers, Groh was 59-53 and went to five bowl games. With two years remaining on his contract, he walks away with $4.3 million.
17 -- Interceptions thrown by Mississippi junior quarterback Jevan Snead this season, including three in last Saturday's 41-27 Egg Bowl loss at Mississippi State. Remember when he was considered a Heisman Trophy contender? Snead has completed just 54.3 percent of his passes and thrown for 20 touchdowns this season.
23 -- Notre Dame's ranking in the preseason AP Top-25. Well ... at least the best poll in the land did a little better regarding the Irish than the worst TV studio analyst in the world.
30 -- Washington State's margin of defeat in its Apple Cup loss to rival Washington. The 30-0 whitewashing was actually the Cougars' closest game of the month. WSU lost its previous three November outings by an aggregate score of 133-24, which averages out to a 36.3-point loss each time.
48 -- The current pointspread for Saturday's New Mexico State (3-9) at Boise State (12-0) game. The line opened at 45 and instantly shot up. The over/under has remained steady at 58. That means oddsmakers see the Broncos winning, 53-5. Last year, it was Boise State, 49-0.
54 -- Points that show how far Oklahoma State really is from joining the Big 12 elite. Earlier this season, the Cowboys lost to Texas, 41-14. Last weekend, they got blasted, 27-0, at Oklahoma. Anyone can lose by 27.
92 -- Years since Mississippi State scored as many as 41 points against Ole Miss.
103 -- Points scored in last year's "Civil War" between Oregon State and Oregon. The Ducks won in Corvallis, 65-38, as both teams combined for 1,157 yards of total offense. Oregon averaged 17.2 yards per pass attempt.
126.5 -- Average rushing yards per game for SEC rushing champ ... Anthony Dixon (pictured) of Mississippi State. The senior, who will not play in a bowl game for the 5-7 Bulldogs, finished just six rushing yards shy of 4,000 for his career and scored a total of 46 touchdowns.
4,500,000 -- Dollars the Big 12 stands to gain if Nebraska beats Texas.
Joey Harrington led Oregon made a BCS Bowl vs Colorado
ahhh but 2002 Oregon wasn't an At Large bid. Oregon played in the Fiesta Bowl because the 2002 Rose Bowl was the National Title game (Neb vs the U)
